Most species previously classified as Polygonum xxxx are now in the Persicaria genus, a few are in Fallopia, a few in Bistort etc. This reclassification has created some added problems on top of the common background confusion. We have shown the way by beginning to compare names from the four corners of the globe and from taxonomists and lexicographers with very different backgrounds. We probably have only listed less than half of the species, so much work remains to be done. One can check our attempt at listing most synonyms for knotweeds and closely related plants (Rumex not included). We have refrained from displaying the "in construction" signs however because they are intensely disliked by reviewers who will not even consider a page if it displays such signs (even if it is justified as in the case of this work). This is a small price to pay for constructive criticisms that casual visitors and even contributors are reluctant to send us.
