On botanical name Shibataea kumasasa vs Shibataea kumasaca
This specific name is badly in need of a stabilised specific epithet. In my opinion it should be kumasasa because it is a name derived from the Japanese. Therefore either "sasa" or "zasa" are acceptable as romanisation for the rare character concerned, seldom found in Chinese dictionaries. "saca" is not even acceptable from a French perspective as it should have a ç to make the correct sound.
On Chinese common name of Shibataea kumasasa.
At the time of compiling I already had serious doubts about the character "chi2" / "shi4" of Wu ye chi. At the time of editing D. Ohrnberger threw a spanner in the work by calling this character "sa" in the specific name Wu ye sa. This is not a major problem if the correct character is shown as I believe we have, but it can be misleading when only the romanised name is given as in most non-Chinese books around the world. Any comment on the correct pinyin for this mysterious character very common in Japan and known there as sasa. I believe that either "chi" or "shi" are more likely to be correct than "sa" because that same character used in wei chi for the species Sasa veitchii makes the Chinese name sound very believably correct.
