Clearly there are some confusing names under both E. esculenta and E. frumentacea which may be in fact synonyms anyway, although some authors (ie. (Tomosaburo Yabuno) clearly distinguish two taxa within this mix: Japanese barnyard millet - Echinochloa utilis Ohwi & Yabuno, and Indian barnyard millet - Echinochloa frumentacea (Roxb.) Link
