NOTES

It seems that there is some confusion in the common names applied to some species of Crotalaria ( C. juncea) and Corchorus (C. capsularis and C. olitorius), especially but not exclusively  in names from India. Although all are fibre plants one would expect clear differences. Perhaps it's just my bias ? Examples are the Indian name "Patsan" equally applied to the 3 above-mentioned species and "San" which is also used for Cannabis sativa (another fibre plant).

A number of the above species are probably better defined by their numerous African names (in the absence of either European or Asian names). Unfortunately we have had to collect these names from various unreliable sources. We offer them there to encourage further research into the African vernacular. Please be warned that all we can say is that the country names are probably correct but the spelling of those names is not so accurate. They are listed under  "UNIDENTIFIED"  because we basically  haven't identified the languages. Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
