The above records are just preliminary, much checking remains to be done especially within the badly defined cultivated groups.
We think that the term 'crispa' is a little misleading for a group
name. Within that group are cut-leaved in a general sense, oak-leaved,
curly-leaved, and "batavias". Oak-leaved lettuces we would like to
call "quercifolia"), the curly type is aptly named
"crispa", and those looking like cabbage lettuces but not forming
a head which appear to be named "Batavias" in Europe and ought to be
named "acephala" drawing a parallel with cabbage shapes. Then there is
the odd name "secalina" used apparently mostly by German taxonomists
applying to what type exactly ? We welcome feed back on all those group
names.
Other wild species that we may cover later if requested to do so.
