American Bamboo Society (ABS), Publish many useful pages. Among them are lists of descriptions classified by genus, list of cold hardy species, etc. < http://www.americanbamboo.org/speciessourcelistpages/speciestablesindex.html >
Australian Bamboo Network (ABN), Publish many useful pages.Noted in particular "How to Prepare Bamboo Shoots for use as Vegetables", Australian sources of plant material, cultivation notes for temperate and tropical conditions etc.
Bamboe, A site compiled by Peter Meeuws. This site has an interesting feature. Any of its pages can be translated from Dutch into a number of languages with the Inter-Trans device. I highly recommend his "Woordenboek" a glossary of bamboo vocabulary which actually makes sense when it is translated by the robot. Start from the Home page < http://home.iae.nl/users/pms/bamboe.html >, click on Inter-Trans icon, fill in windows (Dutch, your language) and click on "lexicon" or equivalent.
Bamboo Australia, "Belli Bamboo Parkland" Kenilworth Road, Belli Park via Eumundi, Queensland 4562, Australia . Sell a wide range of bamboos, including seeds of some species, and run a large display plantation.
Bamboo Down Under , an Australian wholesale nursery. They serve a comprehensive photo album with nice shots of species not commonly found elsewhere. Some shots of more common species are particularly well chosen see for example how they display B. multiplex. < http://www.bamboodownunder.com.au/album/default.asp >.
Bamboo in Japan, A very interesting site, by Dr. Masatoshi WATANABE, from either the ethnobotanist, taxonomist or linguist point of view because it provides photographs, botanical names and common names in English and Japanese, as well as some background on the names such as origin, derivation, meaning etc. All notes are both in English and in Japanese (one language per page). English version : < http://www.kyoto.zaq.ne.jp/dkakd107/E02-e.html >, Japanese version : < http://www.kyoto.zaq.ne.jp/dkakd107/E02.html >.
Bamboo Museum - Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto is a horticultural jewel, its bamboo museum in particular is a must see next time you visit Japan. The next best thing is to visit via the WWW.
Bamboo Select, a well designed Web site for Oprins Plant NV, a Belgian company. Either Dutch or English can be selected to navigate the site. They display a small range of photos but most are comparable in quality to those at Bamboo Garden or Tropical Bamboos. < http://www.bambooselect.com/index.htm >.
Bambouseraie de Prafrance. A French site a little difficult to navigate but with a few hidden treasures. Page versions in English, German & French. < http://www.bambouseraie.fr/ >.
Bambu Brasileiro. A Brazilian site with, among many other things, an efficient tri-lingual mailing list ( bambu-brasil@yahoogroups.com ). Page versions in Portuguese & English. < http://www.bambubrasileiro.com/ >.
Burt Associates Bamboo, P.O. Box 719 Westford, MA 01886 <http://www.tiac.net/users/bamboo/> Have described many types of bamboos in their MiniGuide. <http://www.tiac.net/users/bamboo/burt_13.html> They display some good photographs. They have a useful collection of short shopping lists for the enthusiast that cannot make up his / her mind on which species or cultivar to grow.
Bamboo Garden Nursery, USA, Description of more than 200 bamboos, a section on care, pest & bamboo control and the most attractive collection of photographs beautifully presented. If photos are what you are after and you are short of time visit this site first.
Bamboo Sourcery , USA, describe a number of bamboos. Provide advice on growing bamboos including recipes for potting mixes.
Bambus-Centrum Deutschland, Germany, includes both : Der Bambusgarten <http://www.bambus.de/bambus/garten.html> (Commercial sources of plant material) and Der Bambuswald <http://www.bambus.de/bambus/07/sorten_liste.html> Descriptions (in English and German) and excellent quality photographs.
Canada's Bamboo World < http://bambooworld.com/ > Some beautiful photos unfortunately often spoiled by heavy typed words.
Catálogo Visual de Bambúes < http://www.bambunera.com/visual/ > A comprehensive site in English and Castellano (European Spanish). This is the Visual catalogue (a gallery with several dozen of photographs - 124 when we visited) extremely well organised in 9 galleries of thumbnails correctly labelled botanically. Each picture being linked to a larger photo. The disappointing downside is that the large photos are not of a quality matching the Bamboo Garden images for example. It is a pity because the publishers have taken the care of placing their copyright labels in non-obtrusive spots unlike other website publishers.
Earthcare's list of links. Creatively presented and well designed list of well chosen sites.
Endangered Species < http://www.endangeredspecies.com/B/Names/names.htm > The greatest index of bamboo names in several languages, including Latin, on the Web. Great pity that the authority names are not attached to their respective botanical names. A few photos, many more in the pipeline.
European Bamboo Society (EBS). This is in fact an informal federation of national European bamboo societies. They have compiled a comprehensive resource list covering the world and classified by subject (all related to bamboos of course), including W. Masman's gigantic file of botanical synonyms. They are linked to all the European Societies within the federation.

(Dieter) & Goerrings J. , Founding Editors, 1983 - 1988, The Bamboos of the World : a Preliminary Study of the Names and Distribution of the Herbaceous and Woody Bamboos (Bambusoideae Nees v. Esenb.) documented in lists and maps. Odenthal, Federal Republic of Germany : Edition 1. On going research. The most complete taxonomic study of bamboos ever. If one can get hold of some of the 100+ small publications, each published separately, forming part of this on-going work, many questions will be answered. Especially good to sort Chinese, Japanese and botanical names (including Chinese & Japanese scripts). Single folios can be purchased from Verlag D. Ohrnberger, Wiesenstr. 5, 8901 Langweid a. L., Federal Republic of Germany. I would like to know if the folio on Bambusa has been published, anyone knows ? Thanks to all the people who answered that call. I have just caught up with the 1999 edition from Elsevier (B... fantastic, very highly recommended).
Rakusai Bamboo Park, Kyoto, Japan < http://terrabambu.net/bmuseum.htm > A few photos.
Takehei Bamboo Wholesale, Kyoto, Japan. English Home page <http://web.kyoto-inet.or.jp/people/takehei/>, Japanese Home page < http://web.kyoto-inet.or.jp/people/takehei/indexj.html>. The Japanese pages can be read via Ka-Ping Yee's Shodouka <http://www.shodouka.com/> . They exhibit some beautiful dried canes in their gallery. <http://web.kyotoinet.or.jp/people/takehei/poles.html> this can be accessed either in Japanese, with Japanese names and Japanese descriptions, or English with romanised names and English descriptions, starting from the home page of your choice.
